Mental models, not scripts.
Working with more than 100 families in early intervention, Matthew saw a pattern: the parents who did best were, almost without exception, the ones who understood the science.
From Little Onward exists to make high-quality, science-backed parent education accessible to any parent who seeks it, not only those who can enroll in a graduate program or pay for a specialist. The reason reaches past any one hard afternoon. Children build the adults they become one ordinary day at a time, and understanding that work makes it lighter to carry.
Who this is for. Any parent who seeks it. Classes are $49 with lifetime access, and the tools, articles, milestone tracker, and five AI questions a day are free, with no account and no card.

Parents don’t need more pressure.
They need better explanations.
Most parenting content is either rigid scripts, vague slogans, or a single personal philosophy with very strong opinions. Meanwhile, the actual research on early development is rich, careful, and full of things that would help parents, but it sits inside academic papers most parents never see.
From Little Onward is the bridge. It translates developmental science into classes and tools that respect parents as adults, recognize how exhausting early childhood is, and stay calm about uncertainty when uncertainty is honest.
Matthew McArthur
Child Development Specialist and parent coach
At San Diego State University, Matthew studied how parent stress, changes to the home, screen time, and back-and-forth interaction shape language and cognitive development from 6 months to 5 years, after working with developmental researchers at UCLA during the pandemic. With Dr. Margaret Friend, a professor at SDSU for more than 25 years who runs its Infant and Child Development Lab, he wrote “Why Early Chatter Matters: The Role of Language in Shaping Futures” for Frontiers for Young Minds, a journal written for families and reviewed by young readers.
That work includes two years in state-funded early intervention, coaching families with children under 3 who were experiencing delays, more than 100 families in all.
He is now a JD candidate at Boston University, working on education reform and child policy to win more resources for families with young children.
